Karla Turner Anderson is a Certified Diversity Professional (CDP)currently trailblazing an inclusive environment as the first Director of Diversity and Inclusion for her enterprise. As such, Karla has experience developing, implementing and leading a nationwide diversity and inclusion program for multiple corporate brands under her purview. Additionally, Karla regularly provides strategic direction and change management involving executive and middle management coaching on the business case for inclusion.
A few of Karla’s notable accomplishments and skill sets include designing and launching a nationwide diversity action committee, providing strategic guidance to Employee Resources Groups, and implementation of professional development programs to influence a corporate culture shift. In addition, Karla values her significant experience collaborating with human resources personnel and other enterprise stakeholders to embed diversity and inclusion within their team annual planning.
Karla’s intentional commitment to diversity and inclusion also extends outside of the office as Karla frequently speaks, trains, and coaches other organizations and diversity professionals on topics relating to diversity and inclusion, unconscious bias, and navigating multi-generational tensions in the workplace.
Prior to full-time diversity and inclusion work, Karla was an attorney that represented employers in a range of employment matters including defending clients involved in Title VII litigation and FLSA collective actions, assisting with OFCCP Affirmative Action Plan preparation, conducting pay equity analysis as well as various corporate mergers and acquisitions. Karla also spent time as corporate counsel at a private equity company.
Karla earned her law degree and a law and business certificate from Vanderbilt University Law School and her bachelor’s degree from Fisk University. Karla remains active in the communitythrough the North Carolina Bar Association – serving as chair of the Diversity Subcommittee of the Minorities in the Professions Committee, incoming membership chair of the Sports and Entertainment Law Section, and nationally on the National Employment Law Council Academy Fellows Committee.
As an avid fan of sports, entertainment and the arts, Karla is determined to also impact those industries in her free time through event planning with her business K-List Events & Décor, active training in martial arts at Queen City Jiu Jitsu, and enrollment in the Sports Industries Essentials Certificate Program at Columbia University.
Although a native of Birmingham, Alabama, Karla currently resides in Charlotte, North Carolina with husband who she refers to as her real love, best friend, favorite cook, and the person who intellectually challenges her the most.
